The Band, The Weight (via watanokuni)

It’s been years—as in decades—since I’ve spent time watching and listening to The Band’s Last Waltz. Last time I watched it, in high school or college years, I did not know who the Staples Singers were. I’m sure I enjoyed this clip immensely but the depth of its fabulousness was lost on me. This is so so so good. Mavis Staples is amazing. Pops Staples makes an art out of understatement and cool. Rick Danko’s turn on vocals is inspired. Everyone is so on.
