Dear This Recording and Alex Carnevale…
Dear Alex Carnevale:
You are an Internet-savvy person. I know because I follow you on Tumblr.
From your Tumblr, I know you edit a blog called This Recording.
This Recording is about art and culture.
You’d think those three facts would insure that when one of your writers needs images for a piece she’s writing, those images are damn well not going to go uncredited. Especially when they’re from Flickr. Especially when they’re images of original artwork. Especially when they’re not CC-licensed.
Yet this is exactly what you allowed to happen in this May post on Frank O’Hara by Bridget Moloney.
Commenter Franco Harrah [heh] wanted to know who the artist was and did a Google search and provided the information him/herself, so comics artist Tim Hensley at least got his credit that way.
Why on earth neither you nor Moloney had the time to do the simplest bit of work required to use my image is beyond me.
Unless using the work of others without credit is a common practice on This Recording. Which I’m actually seeing a lot of evidence of… Even if, ironically, Mills was able to rediscover an artist he liked but whose name he couldn’t remember through your Tumblr.
sigh.
Please give Tim Hensley—and me—proper credit in that blog post.
