Um.
So I just got an email from Barack Obama’s team asking me to attend one of those house party things for health care reform. And then I noticed something in the email — they didn’t refer to it as health care reform, they refer to it as health insurance reform.
Is this disconcerting and distressing to anyone else? That is a shift in framing that I can’t really get behind. Since, you know, I’m not looking for insurance companies to be nicer entities (though it couldn’t hurt), but for everyone to be guaranteed health care access. And those two are totally not the same thing. And I don’t feel particularly comforted by a quote from Obama later on in the email saying that he still supports a public option. In fact, it feels almost patronizing at this point.
Am I missing something? If so, please do share.
